Yacoub Sarraf is a famous Lebanese Politician who was born in the year 1961 in the town of Miniara, Akkar, North Lebanon.

His full name is Yacoub Riad Al Sarraf.

Yacoub Sarraf is a Greek Orthodox Christian Politician, who holds a degree in civil engineering and another in architecture from the American University of Beirut (AUB).

Yacoub Sarraf is married and has two children. Sarraf worked for different companies located in Greece and France before he got appointed as Governor of Beirut in the year 1999.

In the yea 2003, Yacoub Sarraf became the governor of Mount Lebanon.

Yacoub Sarraf was close to former Lebanese President Emile Lahoud, he was involved in many political clashes with Rafik El Hariri.

In the year 2005, Yacoub Sarraf was appointed as the Minister of the Environment in the Fouad Siniora government.

Yacoub Sarraf held the post of Minister of Defense for sometime when Elias Murr was recovering from an assassination attempt which took place on the 12th of July 2005.

As Environment Minister he strongly denounced the oil spill caused by Israeli bombardment of the Jiyeh thermal power station during the Israel-Lebanon conflict.

On the 11th of November 2006, Yacoub Sarraf resigned from the cabinet, however Prime Minister Fouad Siniora rejected the resignation.
