Hummus and Tabbouleh Guinness Records

The Association of Lebanese Industrialists and International Fairs & Promotions have organized with the supervision of the Guinness Book of Records The Biggest Humus & Tabbouleh Plates in the World!

A Guinness representative was on hand to certify the record set by 250 Lebanese chefs and their trainees, who joined efforts to mix over two tons of the chickpea-based dip.Under the watchful eyes of the adjudicator, they poured 1,350 kilograms (2,976 pounds) of mashed chickpeas and 400 liters (13,525 ounces) of lemon juice into the mega-sized pottery dish, cheered on by hundreds of onlookers. The following day, the tabbouleh record was broken after the chefs and their helpers from the state-run culinary school chopped and sliced over three and a half tonnes (7,000 pounds) of the salad, using 1,600 kilogrammes (3,520 pounds) of parsley, 1,500 kilogrammes (3,300 pounds) of ripe tomatoes and 420 kilogrammes (926 pounds) of onions.

This national event comes as a response to the false claiming that the Hummus and Tabbouleh dishes are Israeli, and is being described as a patriotic event of national scale:)

The Biggest Humus & Tabbouleh Plates in the World took place at the Martyr’s square in down town – Beirut, on the week end of 24 & 25 October 2009, reaffirming the Lebanese proprietorship of these two dishes. Last year Israel broke the record with the biggest Humus plate.

This event was open to the public where thousands of Lebanese people witnessed the preparation of the largest plate of Humus & Tabbouleh , along with the media coverage of all the TV’s, English and Arabic radio campaign, invited VIPs, and the Judges of the Guinness Book of records.

This national event is intended not only to put Lebanon back on the map and on the international scene, but to also give the Lebanese the chance to join together in order to preserve their identity, culture and customs in Lebanon and all around the world.

The event also featured an exhibition of the finest Lebanese food industries, restaurants, night concerts with a group of leading stars from the Lebanese scenes.
