Amitabh Bachchan was born October 11, 1942 is a successful Hindi film actor . He is also a film producer and the former television presenter of the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati.

Amitabh Bachchan went to Sherwood College which is a boarding school in Nainital, and then he continued his studies at Kirori Mal College in Delhi University where he received a double MA.

Amitabh Bachchan is the elder son of Harivansh Rai Bachchan, who was a former stage actor and a radio announcer.

Because of his unconventional looks and his height( 6’3” ) Amitabh Bachchan had to struggle a lot in Bollywood, as he was considered to be too tall.

Finally, it was K. A. Abbas who gave Amitabh his first chance in (Saat Hindustani) in 1969. But the film failed miserably, and Bachchan was almost unnoticed.

Amitabh played his first leading role in (Pyar Ki Kahani) in 1971, a film that was directed by Ravikant Nagaich.

It was during the film (Ek Nazar) in 1972 when Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri realized that they were in love, and they married after.

Amitabh got his first award for the best supporting actor for the film (Anand) in 1972.

It was until his 13th film (Zanjeer), directed by Prakash Mehra, that Amitabh got to the door of fame.

Then began a remarkable journey to fame and success. In no time the Indian film industry was declared a (One Man Industry), and Bachchan was on the top list.

During the early nineties, Amitabh started his own production company, Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited (ABCL). The company ventured into film distribution with Mani Ratnam’s (Bombay). The company was also the principal sponsor for the Miss Universe Contest, held in Bangalore in 1996.

Unfortunately, ABCL fell on evil days, and got buried in debt.

At the same time, Bachchan bounced back in style. He had to rely on his performance on the small screen which revived the Bachchan charm.

Amitabh was chosen Superstar of the Millennium, easing out giants like Sir Lawrence Olivier and Charlie Chaplin on a BBC online poll. National recognition followed soon. He was also awarded the Padma Bhushan for his outstanding contributions to Indian Cinema.

Amitabh is a relieved man these days, after paying off all his debts.

Undoubtedly, Amitabh Bachchanis still the Shahenshah of the Indian film industry. The Big B (of Bollywood) is an icon who he truly deserves.
